Updating the connector, once

Why one manual reinstall is being asked of you, and why it is the last one.

The short version

Newer connectors install their own releases. Older ones cannot, because the code that does it did not exist yet. So the connectors that most need updating are exactly the ones that will never update themselves, and the only way out of that is one reinstall by hand.

After that reinstall, the connector keeps itself current on its own and you can go back to forgetting it exists.

How to do it on Windows

An update replaces the program and nothing else. The folder it lives in stays, and the pairing stays with it.

  1. Find where your connector lives, then close it. Open Task Manager, right click ai-norden-connector.exe, choose Open file location and leave that folder open. Then go back to Task Manager and end the task, and if it is listed twice, end both. Only one copy runs at a time: a new one opened beside the old one closes itself without a word, which reads as "the program does not open".
  2. Download the current connector, which is 0.16.0: Download for Windows.
  3. Unzip the download wherever it landed. Inside it is a folder holding the new ai-norden-connector.exe.
  4. Move that one file into the folder you left open, and say yes when Windows asks to replace the one that is there. Move the file, not the folder it came in.
  5. Open it from there.

If ai-norden-connector.exe is not in Task Manager's list, it is not running and there is nothing to close. Open Task Manager's Startup tab, which Windows 11 calls Startup apps, right click the connector's entry and choose Open file location to find its folder.

How to do it on macOS

  1. Stop the connector: launchctl unload ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.ainorden.connector.plist
  2. Find the folder it lives in, the one you moved it to when you installed it. This prints the full path if you do not remember it: plutil -p ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.ainorden.connector.plist
  3. Download the current connector, which is 0.16.0: Download for macOS.
  4. Unzip the download and move the new ai_norden_connector.py from inside it into that folder, replacing the one that is there. Move the file, not the folder it came in.
  5. Start it again: launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.ainorden.connector.plist

It does not ask for a pairing code

Pairing belongs to the machine, not to the version. The connector keeps its credential in a settings file beside the program, so a new program put in the same folder finds it and carries on.

If the new one asks for a code, it is not sitting beside its old settings: it was opened from the download instead of from the folder the old one lived in. Close it, move the file into that folder, and open it from there.

A machine that has never run the connector is a first install, not an update: follow Install on Windows or Install on macOS, which make a folder and pair it.

The addon is separate, and does not update itself at all

The Bookmap addon has no updater and never has. When a newer one is published, you replace it by hand: remove the old entry in Configure add-ons, then add the new file. The current addon is v18.

Check the box is still ticked afterwards, on every instrument you trade.

What updating actually gets you

Older connectors send less. A field that was added after the version you are running simply is not in what your machine uploads, so the dashboard shows the older shape of your own trading and nothing anywhere says why. Two people can be looking at the same screen and seeing different amounts of it.

That is the whole reason this is being asked of you once, rather than left alone.

If the reinstall goes wrong

Say which step you stopped at, and paste the end of the connector's log, which sits next to the program.

If the new program will not start at all, download it again and repeat the swap: nothing about your account or your pairing was in the file you replaced. A connector that updated itself keeps the program it replaced beside it with .old on the end of its name; a swap done by hand does not, because the old file is the one you replaced.
